This 1960’s, four storey office building in Stevenage town centre was acquired by our client in 2015. Under changes in planning legislation, permission was granted using Permitted Development Rights, for change of use to residential from commercial. In addition, GHM provided designs to create additional apartments within two new floors over the existing structure. The old and the new were combined as a single building structure through a new external façade. The old curtain walling system was removed and a new modern elevation with balconies and fenestration to reflect the contemporary internal configuration was constructed. Making best use of the existing building, we have created a lively addition to the town centre and supported local housing needs.
