On behalf of Interserve, GHM were appointed under our Mentor joint venture to bring forward the modernisation of this inner city secondary school in Leeds. This Roman Catholic school occupies a series of Grade II listed buildings on a steeply sloped site overlooking the city centre. With very poor circulation and many spaces not fit for current education needs, the effective regeneration of the accommodation was essential. GHM worked closely with Interserve to make improvements across the site.
Funded under the Building Schools for the Future programme, the scope included: the relocation of departments with internal modifications, services upgrades and renovation of various identified spaces. The formal 1960’s sports hall was transformed into a new dining space which then permitted the creation of a new build sports facility building with external all weather multi-use games area.
This challenging project required close, collaborative working with both the school and local authority to ensure any disruption of teaching was minimised, whilst creating and preserving the life of the historic buildings for the benefit of all.
