Supported by Heritage Lottery Funding, two new rooms - along with improvements to the existing ones - have created a free-flowing and integrated art gallery in Barnsley. This development and renovation project have provided the gallery with better exhibition space to display more of the Cooper’s permanent collection and the flexibility for temporary exhibitions.
The new spaces on two levels, provide a transition between Church Street and the new Eastgate Entrance. The main entrance returns to its central position allowing the café to extend into the vacated lobby area.
Upgrading the rear yard has provided a landscaped garden with feature ‘living’ wall, enhancing the public domain.
